Blueberry Crisp for Dessert -- Our favorite blueberry recipe

It may just be my imagination, but it seems that for about 50 weeks of the year, fresh blueberries are just too expensive to justify buying.  And then July hits!  Blueberry season has finally arrived in Georgia, and I was able to get my hands on a few pounds of blueberries at a decent price.  (..not a great price, but a decent price).

I'm currently searching for a blueberry farm so I can stock my freezer for the rest of the year.  But for now I couldn't resisit making a Blueberry Crisp with our first berries of the season.  I made it for dessert last night and served it with Breyer's Vanilla ice cream -- which happens to be on sale at Kroger this week as part of the Summer Mega Event Sale for $1.97 ($1.60 if you use the .75 cents/2 coupon from 6/27 Smart Source).

Here's the recipe:

Blueberry Crisp

4 cups fresh blueberries
1/4 cup light brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter (softened)
3/4 cup rolled oats

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.  Lightly grease a shallow baking dish with cooking spray.  Place the blueberries in the bottom of the dish.

Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and rolled oats in a bowl.  Add the butter (cut into pieces) and use a fork to work the mixture into the butter until crumbly.

Sprinkle mixture over blueberries and bake for approx. 30 minutes.

Serve with ice cream!
